The response to my support question regarding whether the 'read comments' link used to actually take you to the comments and whether that could be restored in some way was not sooper helpful:

Support volunteers are not aware of any layout or style (including the old style system, S1) that links the "read comments" link to the first comment on an entry rather than to the top of the page.

It may be possible to achieve this linking behavior through the use of a custom theme layer. The FAQ referenced above links to the LiveJournal s2howto community, which provides tutorials and information about S2, the style system you are currently using. There, in the "!Basic information" memory category, you will find a tutorial explaining how to create and use a theme layer. You will need to use this theme layer to re-direct the "read comments" link to an anchor on the entry page.

*shrug*

So basically, you go here (http://community.livejournal.com/s2howto/), find the style you're using (flexi squares, bloggish, whatever) and then look for the tut for making a theme layer and put in the code for the anchor.

Uh huh.

Except most people don't use theme layers anymore; most folks just noodle with CSS.

That's kinda lame, imho. But at least they had an answer for you.

Thanks for posting the info, hon.

They didn't seem to know anything about what I was referring to. Were we all imagining it? A said that it would be difficult to customize because not everyone's journal has an anchor there. Depends on the style.

I probably just was using someone else's layout.

Which is outdated now. Bugger. Oh well.

Now I doubt myself as well. Did it go away when I changed my journal CSS? When I changed my layout? Ah well, it's gone now whatever the case and apparently it ain't coming back.
