So cute!

The kitty was so cute yesterday! I got out the duffel bags for the boys so they could pack for their trip, one for each kiddo, and Belloq jumped into the biggest one. We all joked about taking the cat to the water slides, which 6YO took seriously. I explained that kitties are generally unhappy away from familiar territory. Was it then that we discovered that he was crouching in the open bag because he was using it for a litter box? Or perhaps it was while I was explaining that just because many dogs like new places, it does not logically follow that cats do? Either way the addition of cat urine added a certain excitement to the last-minute trip preparations, and a renewed resolve to clean the litter boxes promptly.

In other cat news, this is Day 3 of my campaign to get Jones to not hate Belloq. I bought a case of canned cat food and a leash and am feeding it to them when they are together and keeping them separate the rest of the time. My hope is that they will form an association since they will only get this adored stuff when the other kitty appears. The leash is so that Belloq can't jump on Jones. She hates that, not surprisingly. I'm hoping he will quit trying, eventually, and she will quit expecting him to. *sigh*

I'm going to be getting a free solar installation! There's a program with my state's PUC that gives free solar set-ups to folks that meet their criteria. I'm very excited! The solar guy that evaluated our assorted rooftops thinks he can fit enough panels to cover all of our electrical demand. Not only do I get to feel green, I can have some more green in my pocket. The new roof on the garage is gaining a very important retroactive benefit. He expects to install many of the panels there.

Following is the garden in Nov. and some dahlia pics from warmer, sunnier days.

Cat Update

So far the cat thing is working out surprisingly well. This is the invisible cat. It is a small cat with small neat paws, and its fur is mottled gray and beige. It does not meow, but makes sounds as though someone is hugging it too hard, or it chirps and trills. It does NOT wake me up by patting me on the face with just the veriest hint of claw. It has yet to puke on anything or come home with battle wounds to be patched up. It likes to be petted and scratched and has made itself disconcertingly at home. Doesn't it know we could all be serial killers? Unconcerned, it lazes on my sunny bed and catches spiders in my sunny garden. It has revealed itself to be litter trained and now stays inside at night. Regular applications of kitty kibble have turned it sleek and shiny, and Advantage has stopped the constant scratching. We have named it Jones.

A was coming out of a client's place the other day and ran into a woman pursued by a very friendly cat. They were in a more or less residential area at that point, but the woman was concerned that the cat would follow her into the downtown area where there were busy streets. So A put it in the car and brought it home. My mom, who is not pro-pet (which is a laugh when you see how she dotes on her hens) shook her head. She had advised against replacing our late cat. "It's not our cat," I insisted. "We're just trying to find its real home." "Are you feeding it?" "Yes. Of course we are." "Then it's your cat."

But, last night my Craigslist ad bore fruit, and the cat was reunited with its original owner. He seemed almost overcome with emotion, though the cat was less than thrilled with the pet carrier he brought with him and wouldn't go in. A happy ending. Too bad my mom's phone was busy last night so I couldn't tell her 'I told you so.' Or maybe not, because the cat was back at our back door this morning meowing for kibble. :|
