All in all it was a good trip down in spite of the stormy weather. We listened to some taped interviews from ye olde library and got into some good discussions. The time flew so well in fact, that we failed to notice that the gasoline had flown as well, especially given the 80 mph gusts. So, I ran out of gas for the first time. Connor took it all in stride, as usual. I gave him his markers and paper and he doodled happily while we waited for his long-suffering dad to return with fuel. We were assisted by a state patrolman whose chin was almost as square as I am. I felt tickled that they motored across the freeway divider because they noticed a pick-up pull up behind me. Don't get rescued very often which isn't to say that I have any desire to experience real danger to my person.

Later at the hotel we rented "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Pearl Harbor". EWS was really depressing, sexuality and monogamy in their ugliest and most hypocritical forms. Art films *bleh* In my ignorance I was hoping it would up my odds of scoring, but the effect was quite to the contrary. When the movie was over I looked at Connor sleeping there on the bed and suddenly felt at peace. Here is someone for whom angst does not exist, a dry diaper and some markers is all he asks for in life. There was a funny bit, every time Nicole Kidman started going on about her fantasy man, Tom Cruise would get this look on his face that we started calling The Naval Officer Look. Later, during "Pearl Harbor", when the heroine was explaining to her ex(?) that she had taken up with his bestest buddy and fellow Navy flyer, I cracked up. It was The Naval Officer Look again.
