Today I took 4yo to 'Bounce-a-palooza.' An enterprising individual looked at all the vacant retail space at the local mall and thought of a good way to put the high ceilings to use. What used to be a large 'Old Navy' outlet is now filled with an assortment of huge inflatable obstacle course/slides/bouncing castles. For a small fee per hour, one can turn one's children loose in this blow-up paradise. 4yo had never been, and he insisted I go on all the slides with him. Thus I found myself crawling through a cushy red-rimmed hole between an inflated 17-foot Batman's muscular thighs (look, I didn't design the thing). To tell the truth, it was way fun. The 20 foot, nearly vertical slide was enough to give me that strange but exhilarating feeling that my insides were being squished against my diaphragm. I was looking for a picture of the Batman bouncy thing, and was struck by this design. Huh. Truly time heals all wounds. Perhaps I will live to see the Twin Towers thrill ride.

sinking titanic slide? That's just... I don't know exactly what, but it's something!

On the other hand I'm a little jealous of the the bounce-a-palooza. What a great idea!

:Eyes raised: Sinking Titanic! Ew! Please don't mention your Twin Towers thought.

But aside, I have seen slides and bouncers [for all ages] and there is a joyous abandon in the physicality.

We have a bouncy-place in the next town. One of the bouncers is supposed to be a train or something? Anyhoo....the exit looks like a giant vagina. The really sad thing is the "flaps" don't stay together properly (the kids are literally supposed to squeeze out), so it's constantly deflating...with kids inside!

It is a great idea! It's been there for a few years now I think, so hopefully it will continue. Don't be too jealous. I think it probably represents the height of modern entertainment for at least 100 miles in any direction. :)

The bouncers really are a lot of fun. :) It's not something I make a point of telling people, but I've found myself just a little bummed that I'm too big to be allowed on the bouncy castles at the fair. They were one of my favorites as a kid. It's a bit like having the physical abilities of the most average animal. Suddenly you can leap and bound.
