Glorious day today. It's extremely beautiful here. I've told people where I was from and they would often say "Oh, what a beautiful area" and I would say, "Why yes, it is indeed". I don't know how many times I had that exchange without really meaning it. Yesterday, as I was driving towards Mom and Tim's I saw a hawk hovering at the crest of the hill. It wasn't beating its wings, but rather had them almost completely folded. Watching it balance in the wind rushing over the crest was just astounding. It reminded me of those Olympic moguls skiers. All for a mouse.

I forgot to take a book to the DMV. Oops. More hoops yet to jump through to register the CRX, but I passed the test and got my license. Got CA insurance cards. Got my most important replacement plastic. Lost keys.

The current theory is that Connor has stashed them somewhere. When something goes lost around here lately we speculate that it's 'with Darth Maul'. Connor was playing with him early in the unpacking and no trace of him has appeared in subsequent tidying and organizing. Connor's pretty sneaky, and he likes to 'put things away'. When I took the satellite dish stuff out of the box to take pics for ebay, I found that a dollar bill and a couple of other things had been mysteriously added to the box. Quite often he grabs things out of the refridgerator door while I have it open completely without my noticing.

It's time I got a job or something. We're past the period where most of my time is spent unpacking and the like. Today I put plastic covers on some of my favorite romance paperbacks, de-clinching them at the same time. When the industry was first responding to reader requests for tasteful covers, they just couldn't go cold turkey so they put the clinch in a 'step-back' with thumbnails on the spine. I'm not sure whether it was due to cost factors or getting a bigger clue, but reprints of the same cover ditched the step-back as well, though they didn't go to the trouble of removing the mini-clinch on the spine. I found recently that this is an excellent spot to deploy favorite stickers or bits of pretty paper where they can be seen and enjoyed. I don't think I'll bother with the vampire ones though, the lurid covers suit them all too well.
