And I even took pictures. Plus my garden in August. I've failed to take pics at the beginning of Sept. and Oct. Ah well.

Here it is with two sides painted, and the roof 99% done. I wish I had taken a true 'Before' pic. Instead I must ask you all to imagine it all being the bare, weathered wood, with a similarly rustic roof. The right corner was already primed because the Mister rebuilt that corner a few months ago. (He didn't quite intend to, but he needed to replace the gate, and rebuilding a corner of the garage turned out to be a necessary first step. The framing in that corner was completely rotted and I understand that the garage was being supported mostly by the track for the garage door in that area.) While the garage had been painted at one time, the paint had almost completely worn away.

Day One: Scrape the old paint (wear a fancy respirator, lead paint!), then scrub the dirt off of the primed areas, pry off the aluminum flashing and trim boards that aren't savable, glue and clamp and sand trim boards that are still up for duty, cut and install new trim boards where needed, apply primer to everything.

Day Two: Paint it. Voila! I hadn't intended it to be quite so THERE. The base color was the original trim color, the door color was the original base color (more or less), and the trim color was a last minute selection when it became clear that a replacement trim color was needed stat. I have no regrets. It's a lot more my taste than the more subdued colors I picked originally. 11YO politely reminded us of our pledge to let him help paint. Again. And we finally followed through. It only took him about 20 minutes to decide that we hadn't been bogarting the fun as much as he had supposed and take himself off to enjoy the rest of his childhood.

August Garden: Note the bare spots where the poppy towers were. Still, the tiger lilies put on a nice show. And then the asters in the center section did their fall thang, and by lovely coincidence, the CA poppies that I planted almost a year ago finally decided that it was time and they bloomed right along with them.

I like the pretty, eye catching garage colors. It would look great with some California poppies and tiger lilies against it!

Of course, the garden is beautiful.

That's a great idea! I've been strongly considering planting some calendula, poppy, and honeywort along the back fence there, a similar color scene made from annuals with nearly weed-like toughness.

Striking color for the renovated garage!

Grand autumn garden. Those tiger lilies are just the right bronze-y color!
