Child-led learning
Nov. 8th, 2011 06:37 pm11yo watched a lecture on brain science. He wants to create an artificial intelligence. That's a lot more ambitious than he realizes, I think. 8yo drew a naked person with boobs and a schlong. 'What's wrong with this picture?' he joked. 'Nothing', I said. Then we spent some time learning about fetal sexual development and the 1 in 100 people who are born intersex and the tremendous barriers they face in our culture. Not least is the pretense that they don't exist. Then somehow we moved on to the story of Hanukkah. I'm not sure how much they took away about religious oppression and miracles, but they all agreed that they could get behind lighting candles, eating food fried in oil, and gambling with chocolate coins. Somewhere in there we fit in a discussion of multi-level marketing and pyramid schemes. In other news, 6yo has stolen all of our Super Speed for his own use. We would steal it back if only we could catch up with him.
The Mister has been making bread! I love him! Also, I've found three Rose Campion seedlings. Which is all I really need. Yay! Plus, I want to take pics of the garden all put to bed for the winter, but I keep waiting for the weather, daylight and opportunity to intersect.
