I've been trying to teach 6YO to speak 'cat'. I think it's too late for Jones to learn to speak '6YO'. Or maybe she understands it all too well. I've tried to teach him that a twitching tail and turned away head mean that she's annoyed, that staring eyes and lowered ears mean 'Feel my wrath in T minus two seconds'. I've tried to teach him to blink slowly at her, and also to move slowly. It means 'you're my friend, and I mean you no harm', and he really has gotten much better. I like it when the cat and I blink at one another. I feel like we're having a moment of understanding. We're buds. 6YO and I, we blink at one another, too, actually. Moments of vulnerable darkness accompanied by sappy smiles.
Some friends were pet-sitting a cat that does not attempt to speak to 6YOs, it simply plays dead. It was raised with a small child and has more realistic expectations of them, perhaps.
I'm trying not to panic! I got my first shipment of dahlia tubers today. If that weren't bad enough, they threw in three more varieties for free. So much to do! New growth is popping out everywhere!!
