... no one knows I'm actually one of 'TV's weirdest fans'.

http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20568361_21117146,00.html#21117090

I'm torn between being amused and horrified. That's like saying that people (read: men) that root for a particular team are football's weirdest fans. But they don't. I think I may have to write them and point out their nasty sexism.

Then again, didn't Spuffy ruin television? End the world? I can't remember. I wreak so much carnage, it's all a blur.

Buffy SPOILER (?)

P.S. Buffy's getting an abortion. I am beyond glad that Joss is going there. I'm SO tired of 'nice girls choose life' and then it all works out. I live in a poor neighborhood. Believe me, it doesn't just 'all work out'.

Guess I'm going to have to rip the cover off this magazine before I bring it in the house. I don't appreciate PG-13/R materials where my young kids can see them - even if I think it's hot.

I wonder how much hoopla Buffy getting an abortion will cause? I just am not in the mood to get into another argument today about women's reproductive rights and how we do not live in a Utopian society, no matter how much these right wing idiots like to think we do...

I think you should totally write to them, and make that point about sports fans. Any/ all fandoms have crazies, but some of the sports fans? Yikes!

I guess so! Me, I just told my young kids when they asked that a lot of grown-ups like to look at other grown-ups without much clothes. They could never understand the attraction, and I would always concede that grown-ups could be quite strange.

I was never clear what sort of harm that knowledge of nudity or sexuality did to kids. I'm genuinely curious why your embargo? I know it's pretty common in our country.

You know, I had seen the cover of the magazine with Nina and Ian, but somehow I missed the subtitle about shippers (ETA: I can't imagine why I might have been distracted from the headlines!). Gee, thanks EW. Nothing like perpetuating the myth that women who are invested in something creative are "crazy".

I'm SO tired of 'nice girls choose life' and then it all works out.

Me too. I afraid the comic is going to wuss out and have it be a mystical pregnancy that can't be aborted, but I'm at least glad that Buffy is willing to go there.

Not very much probably. I'm guessing Buffy is getting farther and farther from the mainstream spotlight.

I know! I haven't heard of any shipper wars that are anything like sports riots. Though, if we got all the Spuffies and Bangles into a stadium and fed them a bunch of beer it's hard to say what would happen.

Yeah, I can't imagine what you were looking at...

Maybe something like... THIS

I have my suspicions, too. I'm also having herself_nyc fic flashbacks.

I was reading that Buffy read off a whole list of possible daddies to Dawn, including Spike. I'm confused. You'd think having sex might be something that would come up between S/B afterward if it had happened.

Ah, you seem to be assuming that any of the characterization in the comics makes sense.

Well darn...now you're making me think about it ;)
Hmmmmm....

I think it's about keeping them free from sexualized images when they're too young to process what it means.

I think I want my kids to have an "innocent" childhood and not to worry about grown-up things before they're grown up.

I know that generally Europeans are more liberal on this issue and I can't see that it's been harmful - in fact, I don't think you have the hang-ups about sexuality that we have here in the States. I'm hoping that I can keep my kiddos hang-up-free, but I want to wait until they're a bit older before trying to explain everything.

I do like your explanation, though. Short, sweet, and so very true!
