Garden in (almost) April
Mar. 31st, 2012 07:49 pmThe weather put me into a weather coma today, I swear. When it began to thunder, I just passed out. Dumping rain for days is one thing, but there has been dumping, blustering, gusting, and now thunder. My new tenants arrived from sunny Santa Monica right into the middle of it. They claimed to be unintimidated. "It's so green here." Time will tell. Happily, the alley apartments seem to have quieted appreciably. And, the mean, unhappy lady next door went to her reward a few weeks ago. I wish I could be sorry, but not only is she no longer screaming her rabid hatred at her grandson, her mean, unhappy pit bull that has been forever escaping and biting dogs/people is also GONE OMG, PLUS her heirs have descended and are fixing up her place. Enough of my morbid and inappropriate joy. On to garden pics.

I'm pretty happy with those daisy things in the middle. They have similar flowers to the coneflowers that I pulled out, but they have a number of advantages. They're not sickly, their foliage is attractive and evergreen and they flower like crazy from early spring until forever. But for some reason I've never bothered to learn their name.

Wider view. Maybe if I don't point out the window screens you won't notice them? Too late. See, I took out that little rock garden thingy. I like the cleaner look better.

Here's my plant ghetto. It's pretty small right now. I'm trying to be better about buying plants that I don't have room for. Of course, I'm not showing the dahlia tuber ghetto up on the porch...

Here's the remaining unfinished side of the garage and the site of my little land grab. The existing fence will be moving to the left four feet. The little piles of dirt are where the post holes are. Project postponed due to inclement weather.
