I made some beads that I'm pretty happy with. It's a novelty to be able to manufacture things. I find myself thinking in terms of one item and then find that, having made the requisite cane, that there is identical material for half a dozen. Anyway, so I've got these beads, time to use them for their intended purpose: I strung them up with my biggest crystal and hung it in the window over our bed. On the next sunny morning, there were pretty little spectrums all over the room. Mission accomplished. There was an unexpected bonus. There's a sodium vapor security light right outside the window. For the most part it is directed at the bank next door, but security lights seem to be like zucchini, there's always plenty to share with the neighbors. It drives my MIL batty, but I rather like it. It turns the seedpods on the Hawaiian Silk tree outside a funky shade of pastel pumpkin. Against the night sky, this looks quite arty. It also serves as a night light, useful for folks like me who are on-call. To my delight, it seems that it is powerful enough and directed enough to make visible spectrums. Alan sat up and set the crystal spinning. It was definitely a moment as I was drifting off to sleep, thinking fancifully of planets spinning in their orbits around the sun. Last night the hot points of color against the dark ceiling made a pleasant contrast to the snow drifting down outside. I'll have to hang up some more.
