We found a rental that's not scary! This was becoming a matter of some concern. What with not being employed and everything, we wanted to keep the rent less than $600 a month. As we perused the rentals in that price range, we wondered (not for the first time) if we were completely insane. They generally had various bedding for window coverings and a look about them that fairly shouted 'Victimize me, I'm used to it'. By some freak of fate there was a 1-bedroom unit in a duplex that was clean and not too shabby looking for $400 a month. Redwoods in the backyard, out of town, window blinds, washer and dryer included, what a steal! I begged and pleaded and swore whatever I thought they wanted to hear and we got it. Guess we'll see what the catch is. For one thing, I don't know how we're going to secure the cats at night. I wonder how vigilent the landlord is (cats are absolutely not allowed inside). :P

Connor has a new and favorite sign: 'ducky'. It's pretty sad when a duck can outrun you, but Connor was having a grand ol' time chasing around after Mom and Tim's ducks. He latched onto their duck beanie baby (a duck he can catch I suppose) and he smiles and loves it and hugs it and gives it little pats (its name is Jake not George). It's got to be worth it to at least give the area a try if it means he can be around other people that love him so much.

Speaking of free babysitting, I saw 'Lord of the Rings'. I want a round door on my house! It was pretty, and probably the best fantasy movie I have ever seen, as well as winning the prize for best movie that also happened to be a special-effects extravaganza. This is probably more likely to happen when you're starting with a decent story, and you select your actors for ability rather than muscle mass or height. It did indeed have that 'Granddaddy of all Cliches' issue. Alan and I were whispering things to one another like: 'I feel a disturbance in the Force.' and 'I don't think there was enough human left in Voldemort to die.' Also saw 'Harry Potter' again. I wanted to see it an additional time on the big screen. On the down side, sometimes when Snape's too-black stringy hair is falling over his too-pale face, he reminded me regrettably of Michael Jackson, and I just couldn't lose the image.
