A week or so ago Tacky quit eating. This is one of the few ways that cats demonstrate that they are feeling really unwell, and I feel the panic starting. Tacky is 16 years old. I call around 'til I find a vet that will see her today. This doesn't take long, then I call Alan and ask him to come home early. The vet checks her over, takes a blood sample. The only thing immediately obvious is an elevated temperature, so he gives her an injection of antibiotic and vitamins. That night she eats dinner and seems much perkier. The next day I call for the blood test results. Nothing seems too off so they recommend a course of antibiotics. And... this seems to do the trick. She's her same old self again. So I don't have to say good-bye just yet. But it's often in the back of my mind these days when I come home and see them stretched out on the porch steps, their coats dusty and sun-faded and just a little ragged. Old.

This weekend we've been invited to a potluck by our midwives. The midwives seem to like us a bit more than we deserve. I suppose if we have the misfortune for some people to see us at our worst more often than is representative, it makes sense that the opposite should be true. Or, perhaps you're bound to generate a certain amount of warmth when you start passing out the $100 bills. Who knows? But now I wonder when my limited social skills will topple us from the pedestal. Haven't a clue what to make. Stick with cookies? They ought to be impressed with Aidan. I took him in for his shots finally. He weighed in at 17+ pounds. 95th percentile for his height and weight. You'd have to look long and hard to find a more robust specimen of 3.5-month-old humanoid. Oh, I love to cuddle him. Oh, my achin' back. :)

Tommorrow I'm taking Mark out to lunch for Father's Day. I'm quite looking forward to it. I was very fortunate that he put in the time and interest. I'll never forget it. I got Alan a gift certificate at Axion Technologies. Well, I had to make one myself, they didn't seem to have any. I made up a new slogan for them: 'For the special nerd in your life!' He says he hasn't a clue what to get. *sigh* I scanned a picture of Tim and Connor and made Tim a card. I did dotted letters and Connor traced them to make a message.

Now that I've gotten a bunch of money for my auctions, I want to buy Sprited Away. I found it with Castle in the Sky and some other kid flicks that I wouldn't mind having and some others I thought I could sell to pay for the ones I wanted to keep, but I got outbid, dammit. Hard to say when some other freak will decide to sell their kid movie collection.

"Mom's plucking her eyebrows"
"Fucking eyebwows?"
"Puh. Puh-lucking eyebrows."
"Pucking eyebwows."
"Yes, that's exactly right!"
