The property has been deemed a swamp and is too expensive besides. The search goes on.
Yesterday we did the Solar Home Tour. That was fun. I like some aspects of Arcata. It is philosopically closer to us than any other local community, but way too far at one end of the spectrum for a group of folks generally claim to espouse balance and harmony. What I like best about it is part of what is negative about Arcata. I like older houses, unique houses, houses with personality, houses that are cared for. Arcata has a lot of these houses because property values are through the roof. Instead of building a McMansion in a new gated subdivision, folks with dough who would be home owners in Arcata are forced to recycle older homes. I suppose there is a kind of irony in ultra-conventional fifties bungalows being gutted and transformed into eco-cottages.
