Kids movies are so much more psychological than they used to be. In the original Jungle Book the main concern was keeping the main character from being eaten by a tiger. In the sequel, the worry was whether he would come to understand the true meaning of friendship or some such thing. In the original 101 Dalmations the main concern was whether the puppies would be processed into pelts and crow food before their parents could rescue them. In the second film the main concern was how left out and unspecial the main character felt as one of a family of 101. This probably reflect all kinds of interesting changes in the way children are, the way children are perceived (more adult?) and the sorts of concerns modern parents have about them (out with scurvy in with self-esteem?).
