In the last couple of days, I have watched a couple of things that made me laugh 'til I cried. I had a great time, but it's just these sorts of entertainments that provide the Mister with double his pleasure. Long years of experience have clued me in to that shift in intensity that means he is laughing at the movie AND he has also begun laughing at me laughing at the movie.
The first was the Robot Chicken 'Star Wars' Specials. The Mister and I watched all three, one after another. I grew up with the original trilogy, and these hit me where I live.
The other was the indie film Birdemic complete with Rifftrax. To be fair, it was not the Rifftrax that killed me, but it made getting to the funny part possible. The movie is beyond bland until 45 minutes in when the abrupt introduction of astonishing* bird effects complete with WWII airplane sounds struck my funny bone with bodacious force. I was truly helpless with laughter. YMMV. I guess I missed the trailer when it was all viral and all. Here is an interview with the creator during which I had to keep reminding myself that I was NOT watching an SNL skit.
