New Roof

Today was absolutely gorgeous, perfect for lounging at the beach. I was not at the beach. The Mister gave me a list, and I went roof shopping.

• 18 bundles of asphalt shingles


• 20 ft of ridge cap shingles


• 2 rolls of roofing felt


• 90 feet of metal flashing


• 8 12 ft 2x4s


• 4 8 ft 2X4s


• 1 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood


• 5 lbs of 1 1/4 inch roofing nails


• 4 tubes of roofing tar

The bundles of shingles weigh 80 pounds a piece, which makes it bit of a downer when you load 18 of them into the back of a truck and then discover they are the wrong type. It was the lumber yard guy's mistake, so my alloted task was to be patient and forgiving while the mistake was fixed. I can do that.

Vampire Diaries! Still the best crack ever. I was all aloof and rational about it for one whole episode. Halfway through the second episode, I find myself thinking that Stefan is just another innocent victim of Klaus, and that Damon/Elena/Stefan makes for fascinating TV.

I watched Morning Glory last night. I really enjoyed it. Motivated young woman makes good + Harrison Ford + funny = good times. Also recommended: The Story of Sushi by Trevor Carson, and Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions. And now I must go and read a bedtime story. Our crack/kiddy lit double feature right now is Pendragon/The Fledgling
