It's freezing, but just barely.
Jan. 14th, 2013 10:48 pmI ran out and threw some gardening fabric over the frost-tender stuff that I should have protected last night. I think they were fine all last winter, but last night the fern-leaf lavenders which were blooming their heads off the day before got crisped pretty good, and I don't want them to get finished off. I get this magical thinking where I mistake late Fall for Winter and start to anticipate Spring just as the real cold (for some value of cold) is beginning to set in.
Oh, and in other news we really upset some folks. The Mister makes house calls. He knocked at the green house on the corner of Revello and 8th and told the man who answered who he was and what he was there for. The husband let him in, showed him the computer, the dog liked him. The Mister ran a diagnostic, found nothing wrong and left his information for the wife. Come to find out the actual appointment was across the street at the other green house. The husband was mentally impaired in some way and so was not able to correct the Mister's misunderstanding. The wife called me later, very upset, and certain that he had gone there to rob them or install viruses on their computer. Ugh. Then I stepped on my tenant's toes, and they are not the type to suffer it gladly. I asked to show the place on a Sunday, not realizing that it's only allowed Monday through Saturday, and that's if you are interpreting the law liberally. Sigh. I won't miss these tenants. The female half is very snippy, and they were not a good fit for the neighborhood. I'm fairly certain that they were the only people for a multi-block radius that jog even when not being pursued by police. Some people just don't enjoy being misfits. In a much-appreciated feat of saintly benevolence, the Mister responded to a wistful hint on my part by initiating a rewatch of the Pride and Prejudice mini-series. It's ridiculous how much I looked forward to each night's installment. Tomorrow, I'm showing the place again and I've high hopes.
