I should never have read that essay on how to write bad sci-fi and fantasy, now I'm seeing plot tokens and plot vouchers everywhere. This book was kind of an amateurish effort anyway. Then again, if you're not after a plot token, what's left, politics? Who needs that.
I'm going to miss the library here. If the selection at hand doesn't satisfy, you just request the book you want from their catalog encompassing a gazillion member libraries and they email you when its been delivered to your local branch (two blocks away like everything else in this town) Ah! Get thee behind me Satan.
Update on the slug. My field guide reveals that this was a Great Grey Garden Slug. An introduced cannabalistic species from Europe. Not only can it lay down mucus four times faster than the native Banana Slug, but makes a better pet as well (or so I read) due to its tolerance for warmer temperatures. Its penis length is typically about half the length of its body. I suppose hermaphrodites are probably difficult to impress.
