And suddenly it's Spring?!
Jan. 25th, 2014 08:14 pmHow can I take out the Anna apple tree when it's covered by blooms??? Today it was even being visited by several honey bees. Humph. Aaand today we learned that dahlia tubers will not survive the Winter in 1.5 gallon pots, necessarily. I was distressed at the rotten muck I found, and immediately went to dig one of my favorite varieties from my beds. Whew! The tubers were safe and sound. My cool Nigella seeds are sprouting well, but one of my Ladybug poppy plants rotted at the base. And so on. Some casualties, and the west beds are full of tree roots again, but other things awakening and beginning to stretch their limbs. And I desparately need to get cracking on planting seeds. I plan to melt drainage holes in milk jugs and use them to do some 'winter sowing'. I hope there's enough cold left to get the pickier varieties to sprout.
The kids (and I) are training for the Tri-kids triathlon this summer. Yesterday we hiked, today we rode our bikes to Old Town. The chocolate croissants were probably optional.
Also, I bought a cuckoo clock, and imposed a months-long plant-spending moritorium on myself because the clock was costly. I think it will be good for me.
