In my interview for the Public Guardian's office I was asked questions like:

Do you have any experience working with addicts and the mentally ill?
How do you feel about profanity?
Do you have any experience making Medi-Cal and Medi-Care claims?

Hmmm. I don't know if that one is a good match for my, uh, experience. The look on their faces kinda said, "Whata fuckin' pansy." Now, I like to save profanity for special occasions, it's true that I don't smoke or drink, but I'm NOT missish or squeamish. Neither, do I feel much of a drive to help drug addicts and the insane. This flips some people's 'serving the greater good' twinkie, but it just doesn't flip mine, so I didn't try very hard to convince them that I wouldn't pick up my toys and go home the first time some drunk cussed me out. It was interesting the contrast between that office and the Child Support Enforcement Dept. The PG had filing cabinets from the '50's and 4 employees, though maybe there were a few more somewhere else. CSE had a couple of hundred people, brand new office and office furniture; on my first day (yup, they offered me a job, yay!) they're going to be having a barbeque, reminds me a lot of my previous employer. I think the State funds county CSEs pretty heavily, because whatever can be wrung out of non-custodial parents is generally less welfare the state has to fork out, so the CSE kinda pays for itself, whereas the PG helps people that most folks find frightening and/or worthless, and that don't pay taxes in any case.

This weekend I'm going to redo my tank with live plants. I couldn't hold out for 8 weeks, only 6. I'm excited, I hope it doesn't totally crash and burn.
