New Thing(s) I Learned:

The 'Gothic' in American Gothic refers to the architectural style of the window in the background. Part of the reason why alcohol consumption during pregnancy is so bad is that the fetus can't get rid of it very well. It expels it by urinating just like adults, but it ingests the amniotic fluid and gets it right back again.

We were supposed to go see some birth tubs today, but they called in sick. I'd been trying to get a hold of these people for awhile in order to rent a tub and then we found out that they want to sell up. For some reason this really seemed like a ray of light to me, so I've got a fair emotional investment in this (bad idea, yes, I know) and the delay is extra disappointing. A lot of people around here wear more than one hat in order to get by, and here is a more-or-less established business that would fit us very well. More patience, not really my strong point.

Connor was very unhappy today. I haven't heard him cry like that since he was an infant. Whether he knew it or not, he wanted to be held all day. It was only then that he calmed down more-or-less. He's not drooling and I can't feel any swollen gums (talk about head in the lion's mouth) but he must be hurting somewhere. Tylenol seemed to help some. It helps me appreciate his normal disposition, which I understand is extraordinary for a toddler. Yay, attachment parenting. It's more work I suppose, yet makes life so much easier.

Turns out the cross dressing author I was thinking of was George Sand, but George Eliot certainly can write, even though her name was Mary Ann and she wore a dress. How times have changed. I heard a male novelist on the radio just yesterday day saying that male novelists suffer much angst about whether anyone will read their work, what with women making up most of the market and apparently gravitating more towards female novelists.
