The Good Fairy Part 2
“Oh god.  Your thing this morning, and don't think that's water under the bridge, it's still on the 'things you need to apologize profusely for and it might not do any good' side of the-  And the stuff that's been going on with me.  You think I'm-  You wished that I was-”  Buffy swallowed hard.
He was just starting to wonder if the profuse apologies should commence when she spoke again.
“But not- not demon sextuplets right?”
It was a relief to be able to give her some good news.  “No.  No, I only hear the one.”
“Hear?!!  You can already-”  He winced.  Maybe not.
When he'd brought her back to this bed, he'd felt a bit as though he'd snatched her from the path of some certain disaster.  One that might come around again at any moment.  Now, in the cool, dim sanctuary of their bedroom, the sunlit revelations of the morning were beginning to take on a slightly more comfortable distance.  It was difficult to take her threats too seriously when she was clinging to him like--  Buffy released her death grip on his t-shirt and sat up.  She pushed a hand through her hair, not looking at him.
“I'm going to go... take a walk.”
He managed to keep his peace while she dressed, even though her brisk movements and tight mouth reminded him too much of other partings.  He was wiser than he used to be.  Buffy was in flight mode.  He could let her go or have it turn into a fight.  More important, he'd finally figured out that, in classic predator fashion, Buffy chased what ran away.  His pursuit of her had gotten her attention, but it was always when he walked away from her.  That's when she'd come running after, wanting to lock lips, or tell him not to go, or talk about 'feelings'.
Unfortunately, he'd had to exit this plane of existence to rate cohabitation and a confession of love.  It wasn't the sort of thing he could easily repeat.
He sighed.  At the moment he was going to have to settle for exiting the room.  Being in the shower would save him hearing the door shut behind her anyway.  He swung his legs over and toed off his boots, even as he saw her yank on a pair out of the corner of his eye.  He was halfway to their en suite when her hand closed around his arm.
"Be here when I get back?"  Her expression was mild, almost solemn, and it became almost fixedly so the longer she looked at him; he could sense the temper rising behind it.
"Always, pet.  Anyway, sun's-"  He blinked at her.  For the first time he began to get a sense of what a difference this could make, if he liked.  For a long time now he'd been kept to the fringes.  Only really belonging here, in this place that she'd made for him.  Now, the biggest barrier between him and the human world had fallen away.
Buffy had realized it too, if the thoroughly spooked look on her face was anything to go by.  She let go of his arm and backed away.  "Great.  I'll uh..."  She gestured toward the door.  He was still standing there when he heard the front door close.
