My new fav Lotor vid. The blond without a circlet, whom you could be forgiven for mistaking for Princess Allura, is Lotor's mother. The big blue[er] guy (wardrobe courtesy Bicycle Playing Cards) is his father.

Wow. Okay, you'd think the animators would have made mom and Allura look a bit different...

*Bwah* You'd think, except that Lotor tries to kill his father, oh... about 4 times in the first season, might as well go all the way with the Oedipus thing. >:D

*lol* God I love these clips. I find them as inscrutable and as fascinating as, say, Kabuki theatre. The cat intently watched the whole thing over my shoulder and walked away when it was over; she totally gets it.

Is it unfeeling of me to say that it seems weird that someone blue is capable of perspiring? He looks too cool and blue and exotic for anything as mundane as sweat.

I totally agree. My Lotor doesn't sweat, but everyone sweats a lot in anime as far as I can tell, at least of that era.

In that episode, Lotor's father comes up with a nice evil girl for him to marry. Lotor's got one more shot at the Princess and that's it. He comes up with a plan with his buddy the evil witch to make it look as though Allura is dead--that's what happens when she gets hit with the funky dagger. If all her buds think she's dead, no one will notice when he takes off with her, right?

Alas, something about the ploy triggers nightmares about his mother's murder at his father's hands. Except not, because in the American version both of the women in the dream are theoretically Allura.

In the end of course, he is thwarted by our heroes just when success looks certain. I love it when that happens. :|

That helps. The whole dagger thing was a head-scratcher.

I'm glad your Lotor doesn't sweat; it's unseemly and undermines his bad-boy cred.

But you're gonna' fix that, right? ;)

Look. As long as he doesn't call her mummy when he's shagging her it's all a matter of ...perspective, YEAH. Perspective.

*squints*

The nasty role-playing possibilities just boggle the mind.

Is it just me or did they say in commentary that when they cast Spike's mom they deliberately looked for someone that they thought would be what Buffy would look like at the same age?

Momma's boys everywhere I look. O.o
