I was kinda disappointed actually. Though I loved Eomer as McCoy, and I loved all the bits that really resonated as the original, and I thought the cast did a great job. I hate to say this (so shallow and American!) but I wish the cast had been a little prettier, at least as pretty as the original cast. But, to redeem myself a bit, my biggest complaint was that the movie had no meat to it. The original show explored the nature of humanity using aliens as a metaphor. (Sound familiar?) This flick was all fan service. The trailer gave the idea that there was going to be some genuine, grown-up, nail-biting, almost overtly sexual conflict between Spock and Kirk. Naw. SPOILER ALERT THOUGH EVERYONE HAS SEEN THIS BUT ME. (Other people in the theater were quoting the lines. A and I were possibly the only virgins there.) When Spock and Kirk began to argue, and then only about battle tactics not anything with philosophical weight to it, Spock has Kirk ejected from the ship. I got the Kirk/Snow Monster smackdown instead. :P:P:P Granted, Spock slaps Kirk around later, but that was schoolyard taunting, not conflict.

All in all, I had a great date though. A and I had several hours to ourselves and put them to very enjoyable use. Consuming shameful quantities of excellent Chinese food. Watching movies. An invigorating walk culminating in premium ice cream. *happy sigh*

I still need to see UP though I suspect it's as sweet and forgettable as Wall-E, and would like to see Land of the Lost.

ETA: Spock is rly hot.

It sounds like, all in all, despite the disappointing, yet entertaining movie, you had a nice time. I've read great reviews about Up. Wall-E was okay, but I read fan reviews where, even though Land of the Lost has a PG-13 rating, it's actually more adult than that. And most didn't care for it. But one most see to judge for themselves, and I for one intend to judge for myself. I DO like Will Feral, so I'm going to see it.

I did have a nice time! Some of Will Ferrell's movies are hi-larious. Some. :) Maybe this will be one of them. Plus I like dinosaurs. I'm not surprised it's pretty adult. Definitely leave the kids at home then.
