Went to the fair today. Our area has two each summer, and the kids enter artwork in them.

The artwork thing went well.

Through no fault of the fair, I didn't have the best time. I could go into the details: the self-pitying, self-conscious elder; the dog I came within a hair's breadth of squishing on the way there; the joys of keeping three fair-anticipating boys occupied in a restaurant (seemed like a good idea at the planning stage); the 6yo that kept bursting into tears at random intervals once we were there; the 3yo that fell asleep in the car on the brief drive home, but woke up overtired and wired as soon as his head hit the pillow and would not return to sleep.

Hey, at least the dog is happy. The animal pranced on by, didn't even flinch. Hopefully it has since been recovered by its owners and is not out further road testing its lack of street smarts.

Well, at least you can tell your kids when they're older, you tried to do something fun and educational for them when they were young. And the dog. Then at least maybe they'll understand when you tell that's why you didn't take them alot cause the way they acted, in case they complain you never took them anywhere. Hey, it's a legit reason.

Oh, I thought you brought a dog along. I guess not. My mistake.

Good lord it's hard to have a pleasant day with little kids, but when it works it's so golden. That's why you keep trying. Kudos for the attempt.
