Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood
Aug. 28th, 2009 12:34 pmMy gamble paid off. It was a treat to be able to zoom through books 1-7 of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I liked the books' conversational style, wry tone, and nummy vampires. Plus, I find myself not shipping anyone, which is kind of a relief. Amazon reviews tell me there may be troubled waters ahead for the series though. While fun, the books have their flaws, and it sounds like those flaws rise up and conquer in book 8. Ah, well.
Pleased with the books, I acquired Season One of True Blood. I'm finding their casting a little off-putting to tell the truth.
When I picture Bill the Vampire, I see something like this (this is James Marsden BTW):

Instead I got something like this:

Oh well, I have only watched one episode so far. There's still hope for Eric.

Date: 2009-08-28 09:14 pm (UTC)Also? Stephen Moyer and I are just a couple of months apart in age, so every time we sit down to watch the show and Bill makes his first appearance of the evening, I have to pause and pester M. Mere thusly: "Okay. Tell me I don't look anywhere near as old as him. I don't, do I?!" Srsly, dude's the Cryptkeeper!

Date: 2009-08-28 09:23 pm (UTC)Thanks to Netflix I started the True Blood Series. So far, I've watched 4 episodes. The actor playing Bill was a disappointment. I like your choice much better. The brother's role is expanded [a lot]. He is a jerk. Good looking but a jerk.
I will continue to watch and hope there is more...something.

I cringe when his eyes roll back in his head from going too far with looking out from under his massive brow. He's supposed to be from the Civil War not the Neolithic.

Date: 2009-08-28 11:54 pm (UTC)I'm enjoying the heck out of season 2, but I have to say more for the supporting characters like Sam, Lafayette, and especially Andy, Jessica, and Hoyt than for Sookie and Bill.

Date: 2009-08-29 05:26 pm (UTC)I'll probably check out the Sookie Stackhouse books this fall. They always seem to be out at the library though so I may have to buy them myself!

Date: 2009-08-31 02:37 pm (UTC)I've been reading the Sookie books for years, though I'm not sure if I read eight yet. I own like the first five books, and have been renting the rest just cause there is so many other books I want to buy first.
