My gamble paid off. It was a treat to be able to zoom through books 1-7 of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I liked the books' conversational style, wry tone, and nummy vampires. Plus, I find myself not shipping anyone, which is kind of a relief. Amazon reviews tell me there may be troubled waters ahead for the series though. While fun, the books have their flaws, and it sounds like those flaws rise up and conquer in book 8. Ah, well.

Pleased with the books, I acquired Season One of True Blood. I'm finding their casting a little off-putting to tell the truth.

When I picture Bill the Vampire, I see something like this (this is James Marsden BTW):

Instead I got something like this:

Oh well, I have only watched one episode so far. There's still hope for Eric.

Ahahahahaaa! So true! I've watched the whole HBO series in the past month, and I have to say that Vampire Bill just doesn't quite do it for me. Eric, though? Rawr times rawr.

Also? Stephen Moyer and I are just a couple of months apart in age, so every time we sit down to watch the show and Bill makes his first appearance of the evening, I have to pause and pester M. Mere thusly: "Okay. Tell me I don't look anywhere near as old as him. I don't, do I?!" Srsly, dude's the Cryptkeeper!

The novels about Sookie, I found to be entertaining - Louisiana and the world and the people[?] through her eyes. The books got thinner in substance as the series went on. Maybe the rush to publish.

Thanks to Netflix I started the True Blood Series. So far, I've watched 4 episodes. The actor playing Bill was a disappointment. I like your choice much better. The brother's role is expanded [a lot]. He is a jerk. Good looking but a jerk.

I will continue to watch and hope there is more...something.

I will look forward to Eric then. :D

You look much younger than Mr. Moyer. Though in all fairness I think he's capable of being much better looking than they have made him there--and than he is acting. I cringe when his eyes roll back in his head from going too far with looking out from under his massive brow. He's supposed to be from the Civil War not the Neolithic.

In a way the rushedness keeps the dark subject matter from being a downer because you don't get as emotionally engaged. Sometimes tell not show is a plus!

Yes! I like my choice better too, and I want Sookie to be played by BUFFY. Pls can I has? Or maybe Kristen Bell? *wishes and dreams*

Hahahaha! The TV show is a train wreck, though Eric and Pam are fun to watch. I enjoyed the light, frothy tone of the books, and that's completely missing from the show. I don't know why I keep watching.

I hope you're having a happy birthday!

Has Sookie started dating Quinn yet ? After that is when the books go down.

Snerk. Your Bill's a little prettier than the one I have in my head, but the one on the show is a massive disappointment to me too. Thank god Eric is not (it gets better).

I have the True Blood series in my netflix queue. I'm not sure I really want to see it b/c I liked the books a lot and hear that the series took some liberties with the story.

See, that's why I haven't read the books yet! That way I can enjoy the show for the trashy fun that it is, and do it mostly guilt-free!

I'm enjoying the heck out of season 2, but I have to say more for the supporting characters like Sam, Lafayette, and especially Andy, Jessica, and Hoyt than for Sookie and Bill.

The second season of True Blood is much better than the first.

As for the books, it all goes a bit pear shaped after Rhodes IMO. I think the author is signed for 15 in the series, but unless she really pulls it out for book 10, I'm out of there.

Yeah, the whole Quinn thing didn't work for me. He's like the 'Riley' of the series somehow. He should be the perfect boyfriend, Quinn is actually more two-dimensional than Riley that way, (though we don't know him very well and neither does Sookie) yet I just can't warm up to him.

The show has a more snarky humor. The first episode made me cringe, but I'm about six episodes in now, and now it seems competent enough, if kinda bland. I think I'm mostly watching for the eye candy now, and I like the sheriff/detective team.

I had a very happy birthday. :) Thanks!

I just saw Eric, and he's not too shabby. He seemed kinda hidden in his slouch and his wig(?) but I'm guessing he improves when he goes into action?

I would watch the series as it's own thing. They did make some changes, though not many that I can see so far.

I would definitely recommend the books, 1-7 anyway. I can't vouch for the later releases. They are a trashy fun all their own and book!Eric is not to be missed.

Heh! You spoilered me! But if I tell you how, I will spoiler you. :) I'm not bothered, plus it's good news.

Cool! I will look forward to it. :)

Yes, I suspect that's the case. I was considering buying book 8 in hardback until I saw the Amazon reviews.

I spoiled you? oops! Honestly didn't mean to, and not quite sure how. But sorry!

I'll probably check out the Sookie Stackhouse books this fall. They always seem to be out at the library though so I may have to buy them myself!

I'm disapointed so far with who they cast for Eric. He don't match up to the image in my mind. Maybe he gets better, since I only watched the first four episodes so far.

I've been reading the Sookie books for years, though I'm not sure if I read eight yet. I own like the first five books, and have been renting the rest just cause there is so many other books I want to buy first.

Eric's not quite my thing either. I like my men with a little more definition. Still, he's nice and tall, and can produce some decent menace on occasion. :)
