New (to me) Car
Apr. 17th, 2010 12:53 pmI bought a car! *flails* It doesn't drive like a race car, or get 45 MPG, but it does have a 'moon roof' (??) And it's very safe and reliable, plus I can load my tubs in and out of it without being a midwife to them. Apparently, I chose to drive it like a race car anyway. In less than 24 hours, I had my first speeding citation. :| I'm terribly embarrassed. I don't do that kind of thing. A thinks it's hilarious. The officer was kind and didn't fine me for the window tinting that the dealership assured me was legal. A is out removing it right now, bless his heart. I can keep the ticket from going on my record, but I will have to face the judge. *cringes with chagrin*
A and I drove down to San Jose to buy it, since it had the all-important manual transmission. The drive is over five hours, but for the most part it's a great drive. Rivers the color of jade rushing between great upheavals of rock, redwood groves, Napa's vineyards, great oaks and rolling grasslands, the Golden Gate bridge. Buying it took about five hours and was tiresome, but it was punctuated by yummy Thai food which sent me into ecstasies. I can't get yummy Thai food just for the asking, I have to travel for it.
In other news, I didn't care for my first experience with a GPS. I do much better when I know where I'm supposed to go and just go there. I drive badly and get stressed when I'm trying to follow its generic instructions, instructions I don't really quite believe in to tell the truth. Give me a map and a plan any day, though for finding hotels and restaurants along the way, it was very useful. Just not my thing for long journeys.
I really enjoyed traveling with A though, and I missed him on the return trip. A's mom is taking all the kids one night next week, and I still don't have any tubs due; perhaps we'll try to go camping or something.
