I did go to Annie's Annuals, and I'm so glad I did. It was just amazing. They have nearly 500 varieties of plant and THEY ARE ALL COOL. Their demonstration gardens were breathtaking. One of the employees told me that it was a travel destination for many gardeners, who add it to their itinerary next to Yosemite and Fisherman's Wharf. I was so emboldened by not getting shot at the first time that I stopped again on the way home. And of course, that time the GPS instructions took us on a wacky back alley route through unincorporated North Richmond, but again fate was kind. Oh, and we also went to Disneyland and the Long Beach aquarium. The kids had a great time. My favorite part was probably the Jedi Training Academy show. It was adorable watching tiny kids doing battle with Darth Vader. There was always at least one kid that was only just past his knees. Were there always rafts and rafts of strollers at Disneyland? Probably, but this is my first visit since having kids myself.
Everything survived our absence, but my garden grew a foot while I was gone, weeds not excepted. It's a jungle and so is my inbox. And now I have all my Annie's Annuals booty that needs planting, stat!

Date: 2010-05-17 05:35 pm (UTC)I looked up Annie's Annuals after your last post, and had to wipe the drool off my keyboard. Now I can only smile imagining you running the gauntlet to get there twice, and the joy of finding beautiful and rare plants. (I think I actually vibrate in the nursery sometimes -- it's the strangest thing).
Thanks for such a joyful post -- it came at a much needed time. I'm glad you had such a good time.
Now get planting!

Date: 2010-05-17 07:16 pm (UTC)Glad you got to that shop. It sounds magical! I wish I had more room to actually garden. I have a teeny-tiny space that doesn't get much sun! My flowers are really taking off though and nothing beats that morning cup of coffee surrounded by my garden.
