Next door there is a problem. There's a little boy. About two and a half. I have lived next door his whole life and never once seen him smile. Even though I don't spend very much time out in front, I regularly hear screaming coming from the house. Lately I've been seeing a lot more of this little boy because his caregiver has been letting him be outside on the sidewalk, the street by himself. A few weeks ago, I was holding the ladder for A while he cleaned the gutters, and so I was particularly near the house and could understand the words being screamed. "Get the fuck off me!" Later, "I fucking hate you!" Then the front door was opened and the boy was sent out.

Yesterday, my 7yo came home hysterical because he saw the little boy with a big sharp knife. Today, as I left for my walk, I found him on the street playing with a lighter. It would be funny if it totally weren't.

Yikes. That sort of thing is why I got out of the PICU-- i just couldn't stand to see one more "Non-accidental Trauma". But even if that little boy is physically OK it just breaks my heart to think about what he's had to live though.

Good for you for calling.

That breaks my heart. Two and a half and left to his own devices, seen with dangerous objects? This definitely merits a call.

Once I made a call like that, I've never repented. I know that day that I saved a young girls life. She's in college now, but her daddy was one SOB that deserved to be reported. If I have to do that again, I would.

That's so awful. Thank you for making the call. I hope that there's some kind of positive resolution.

Long time no chat. What happened with this situation? Did they come and take the child away for his safety?
