Someone neglected to activate the parking brake on their Chevy and now my back yard is full of limbs. Fortunately my tenant is a frustrated do-it-yourself-er. I gave him the cash we extorted from Forgetful Guy and Tenant had the alley fence rebuilt by the end of the day and was aglow with manly pride. I took the opportunity to trim all the shrubberies away from the fence and do some clean up in their yard. Then it was off with their heads time in my own yard. Cosmos were still blooming. I asked myself, are they making me happy? Nope. I pulled them up, and the sunflower stalks, and I uprooted the agastache that will be happier elsewhere, and moved the giant lavender that was growing (happily) in their prospective happy place. The ornamental garlic, grown into a hayooge clump is a reliable bloomer, but was it really making me happy? Nope. Into the compost with it. Its space now is occupied by a silver-leaved lavender named Ana Louise from my Digging Dog expedition. Good-bye also to the purple cone flower, a clump of cat mint, and a bunch of wild aster that twirled its mustache as it went into the discard heap. I feel certain I haven't seen the last of it. The red-leafed rose has been moved to more sun, and a number of bags of compost were distributed. I haven't been so happy with my garden for some time.
Megamind was plenty entertaining. I stayed awake through the whole thing (fell asleep during Despicable Me). I can't resist a blue alien overlord in love.

I too pulled up some plants which were still flowering but had got scruffy today, marigolds and chrysanths . And then we planted 150 daffodil bulbs!

Date: 2010-11-08 09:50 pm (UTC)The apocalyptic bit was deliberate, I admit, but I really did mean to make more of a connection. I dragged all the shrub trimmings to my own yard and now have to do something with them all. My garden beds look wonderfully tidy, but the rest is a mess of garden waste. I think I'm going to haul out the chipper/shredder as soon as I am done typing, as it is a beautiful sunny day.
