The weather yesterday was dramatic. HAIL! Sun! HAIL! Sun! BIG BIG WIND! HAIL! I think I much prefer it to the Eeyore gloom version of winter weather, but unfortunately that's much more the norm. Hope you all have a 2011 that's free of drama!

I should be planting! I have failed to plant lettuce, and I should plant sweet peas and more poppies and bee balm... Humph! Mache would be a good choice too. It's a tasty green and likes cold weather. If I'm too wimpy to go outside, there's always the narcissus bulbs I bought for indoor forcing.

I have a new black keyboard. I can still remember when electronics were beige, and when they were silver before that and then when silver came back for a while. And A got me a 'Dirty Jobs' t-shirt for Christmas, which I adore. Mike Rowe is da man.

The kids are bouncing off of the WALLS. Tonight we've planned a cookie/pizza/donut/milkshake/noisemaker/computer game party and apparently just the prospect of sugar is enough to make them hyper. At this rate they'll never make it to midnight or perhaps they will and I will just be quietly amazed.

My mom got me a purse and a wallet for Christmas. This would not seem odd to most, yet I am somewhere on the road to butch. Tomboyish? And my dear mamma has only gotten more patrician femme over the years. Ever since puberty she has been gifting me with the occasional purse in hopes one will stick. I actually do have a purse at the moment. Sometime after I started carrying a cell phone and got an MP3 player I dug one out of a drawer when I got tired of juggling. I've taken it as a sign that I should toss said purse in the washer in hopes of making it more presentable, and I've decided to replace my wallet which has gotten a bit scruffy. Here's my new Kiki's Delivery Service one, once it eventually arrives from Hong Kong:

ETA: In all fairness she did also gift me with a pair of Ed Hardy sneakers which I love. I love most all of the designs. It would be fun to have one for each day of the month.

Funnily, I just bought my granddaughter [10 yo] a copy of the DVD of 'Kiki's Delivery Service'. [No one in the family had heard of it!]

Happy sugar-y delight New Year!!

My oldest watched KDS over and over. I thought it was charming. :)

So did I when I saw it via Netflix. Hope she likes it. She was sick at Christmas and finally saw her yesterday and gave her presents. Gave her what was probably her last American Girl doll - the American Revolution 'Felicity'. Do your boys collect Thomas? Figures? Cars?

Mine are LEGO fiends, though the oldest went through a Thomas phase. I'm thoroughly sick of the little bits of plastic. ;)

We get these huge pretzel jars from Costco to help contain 'stuff'. My grandson has this marble thing-y and the jar is a life-saver.

Bless you, but the LEGO set my mom got 8yo for Christmas just now had 597 PIECES. It makes me want to weep/froth at the mouth. *deep breathes*

I was reading this column (http://www.freep.com/article/20101231/ENT01/12310311/1322/Michigan-lands-role-in-The-Avengers?GID=KBk2pHh7Cc5fRIqck3HOHnOmFFIb0JaU1soXodiS9Eo%3D) about cold weather greens today and was thinking of you.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

That sounds interesting, but the link is wrong I think.

You're quite correct (http://www.detnews.com/article/20101231/OPINION03/12310311/1038/lifestyle01).

Thank you! Now I find myself wondering where I might squeeze in a mini greenhouse or cold frame. My two big vegetable beds are in full shadow this time of year.

It seems that 'thinking' is all I can manage. ;)

Thanks! I knew that was the one for me.

You too. :)
