botiasIt was New Year's Eve, the kids were with Grandma, we each had a mixed drink in hand (Milkshakes. Mine was chocolate with Kahlua and bits of frozen Heath bar blended in and a scoop of Snickers ice cream on top.) The projector was projecting. We have a tradition of action/thriller flicks on New Year's, and this year's choice was Star Trek the reboot. I was having a great time, but still I took a moment to think of the less fortunate. "There are probably lots of Trekkers who despise this film," I mused.
"Yes, quite a few," said the Mister.
"It's really too bad that their inflexibility has caused them to miss out on a fun flick." I scooped up a little Snickers ice cream with my spoon and savored it as Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto attempted to stare one another into submission on screen.
"Some of them probably feel that only the original actors can be those characters."
"But it's no different than fan fiction, and it's really well done. The fans should embrace it," I said.
The Mister partook of his own milkshake, vanilla with a scoop of mint chip and whipped cream on top. Then he said, "Who's the one true Mr. Darcy?"
"THAT'S DIFFERENT!!!"
I hope you all have an excellent 2012. I'm pretty sure that's what's chiseled on a Mayan calendar somewhere.
