All Wrong

I have been perpetuating a myth! Daddy Long Legs spiders/harvestmen are not poisonous at all; they're not even spiders. They eat plant and animal matter, and the occasional unlucky critter, and have pinching mouth parts but no fangs or venom whatsoever. On the downside, this means no foreplay for the harvestwomen, whereas male spiders go to great lengths to woo and appease their deadly mates.

In other news, I thought car alarms were mostly useless, but I might be wrong about that too. HCL is having all sorts of problems with vandals and thieves, but we've had no real trouble in the six years I've been here. Probably the worst thing was finding a half-full bottle of Arizona Iced Tea in the front seat of my car that was left there by some random snooper, and maybe my MP3 player stolen from it. Poor lady. Leave her car alone! They have enough troubles over there.

ETA: If you want to write a book universally liked, write a book about poo. People seem to have a hard time finding something bad to say about them.

I would find somebody leaving ice tea in my car extremely disturbing. Gah! At least it could be diet coke!

Interesting. I hadn't heard that particular myth, though the fact that they're not venomous is very reassuring.

It was a little disturbing. The lit LCD flashlight that appeared in my fenced and locked back yard one night was little weird, too. For a few nights I kept wondering what that little light was out there in the grass. I'm surrounded by curious primates.
