Mention of Mardi Gras in the news led to explanations about Ash Wednesday and Lent. Then I explained the story of Easter. I then got blasted by the two younger kiddos for presenting them with material that they considered completely unsuitable for impressionable and sensitive children. :P
In kayaking class, the first maneuver was to be flipped by the instructor so that you could demonstrate that you could get out of the kayak on your own while upside down under water. I don't know if this is true of all kayak designs, but the one I was in, if you lean over, around you go and your kayak becomes a U-Boat. This, after I promised 11YO that he could skip any 'eskimo roll' parts of the class. I turned around to look for him as soon as I understood, but it was too late. He soldiered through it though. There were pancakes in it for him, after all.
I filled my seed trays with planting mix. That's as far as I got last year. Wish me luck!
