Was reading a blurb about a new book coming out about the sex lives of children purporting that sexual encounters with adults are not always negative, especially for males, etc. Duh. Not surprisingly, it's being roundly, even hysterically attacked. The article mentioned that the ever-sensible Danes passed laws about a decade ago making sexual encounters between adults and children between 12-16 legal so long as there was no coercion. Now, I know children have sex lives. I was very interested in sex as a child and did all sorts of childish kink with my cousins and felt rather abnormal for it because nobody talked about these things. How would I respond if my 12-year-old daughter had entered into a sexual relationship with someone over 20? My immediate reaction is not very positive. I think a lot of it is that I feel that 'adult' sex belongs within a caring relationship. Yes, I understand that sometimes people just want their twinkie flipped or their buttocks whipped or whatever, but a body has to take a stand somewhere sometimes, if only for themselves, and that's where I be standing. My inclination and experience is that an older person who has encouraged a [sexual] relationship with a minor is not offering such. Guess I will burn that bridge when I get to it. It's not unusual for my liberal rationalities conflict a bit with my more conservative sensibilities. I remember in my Human Sexuality course full of college students, the most liberal folks in the land, we were given an exercise where we were to split into groups and create our ideal sexual mores for a society. The groups were confidently coming up with things along the lines of: anytime, anywhere, anyone. But when someone said "What about kids?" They became tongue-tied. We're just not there yet in a very real way.

Alan went to the Redwood Technology Consortium meeting last night, met someone who might be able to offer him some ColdFusion contract work. I hope so, I know he prefers it to tech work, but doubted there was much call for such around here. Later I fell victim to Waldenbooks' buy 4 romance novels get the 5th free. Something old, something new, something biting... there was a new vampire romance out that I didn't even know about. She must churn those puppies out. :)

Went to Wild Berries while we were in Arcata. They carry White Wave's line of tempeh now. Long live Sea Veggie Tempeh!!!! Woooohoo! I've got Mom talked into working out with me at least 3 times a week, and I've been running my errands via bike lately (encouraged by Humboldt's 'most pricey gas in the nation' status) so hopefully I'm getting back into some semblance of fitness. I would like to have more munchkins, but would very strongly prefer only to do so in good shape. I don't mention this to Mom. I've imposed a ban on discussions of family planning, which I think is for the best, and don't want to be the one to violate it.

Connor's on the verge of talking. Well, he already talks a great deal, and with great conviction, we just can't understand it.
