It's 8 PM on Thanksgiving and I'm... bent over with my butt presented to a major intersection in Arcata harvesting Gaillardia seed heads as Alan stands watch, keeping his own counsel. I didn't take the plant as I can only guess there is someone else who likes volunteers. The shrub and bark landscaping that this lone plant of bright red and yellow daisy-type flowers has infiltrated is not weedy so someone must be leaving it be.

Thanksgiving dinner went pretty well. I had the brainstorm that Alan's 80-year-old grandma might like a bit of help feeding several people, and I was right. We brought vegetarian gravy (rather blander than 'real' gravy, it was concluded, but not bad at all) the stuffing and the mashed potatoes. Mmmm, gnocci, I love gnocci. All in all, my in-laws are pretty nice, genial folks. With the odd exception. That evening Ginger's 'natural' parenting lesson was in not being both clear and firm in matters of discipline. She 'punished' Cheyenne by telling her she couldn't spend the night at her grandparents, and then recinded and reinstated it about 5 times. Literally. I don't remember the final verdict. And then she smacked her. It would be comical if it weren't. *sigh* Then, at 1 AM there was a phone call. Alan drew the non-pregnant straw and went to do our first delivery, bless his skinny heart. Yay, birth tub income! And today I made my first transfer out of Aardwolf's brand spankin' new checking acct. Yay, income!

Today we head over to my mom's for Thanksgiving II. I've never had a 'tofu turkey' before. New experiences ahead for me.

Next week: Aquarium plants! (Please?)
