Tree stuff

It was a clear day today. I didn't plant any trees, but I bought another one: an Esopus Spitzenburg apple (Thomas Jefferson's favorite!), a huckleberry (Mark Twain's favorite!), and also a grape vine, some sort of purple tasty grape that doesn't require hot summers. It's past time for a support group of some kind, but I did do some work as well. I pruned all three of the established fruit trees. What a job it was, involving ladders and various pointy implements, none of which inadvertantly or vertantly pierced my flesh. My new fruit trees will not be allowed to get that big *swears*. By hacking them off low to the ground from the start, their canopy will start 18 inches off the ground instead of five feet.

It was kind of last minute dormant pruning for this climate. The pear tree's buds didn't look terribly dormant anymore, and I notice all the ornamental plum trees are in full bloom.

While I was looking up different training methods for trees, I found these nifty trees.
