Potential New Pets
Nov. 30th, 2011 11:20 pmThe Mister made parakeet gravy. Long ago on the radio I heard a woman talking, a teacher. One of her students had given her a pair of parakeets, or perhaps they had been classroom pets. Either way, she found that she was never quite able to be parakeet free after that because she would take pity on the surviving parakeet whenever one would pass away, and get them a new companion. In our case, the mashed potatoes and stuffing always outlive the first batch of gravy, necessitating the preparation of another batch, which then outlives the mashed potatoes...
The potential new pets are compost worms which make 'tea' rather than gravy. Vermicomposting is what the cool garden geeks were doing about a decade ago, but I've never been willing to shell out $80 to $150 for a plastic worm ranch. Just for grins I put a 'wanted' posting on Craigslist offering $25 dollars for one, and I got a response! Tomorrow, I'm going to go check it out.
