At least my garden is fun right now

My guilty pleasure show sucked so hard last night. I wanted to cry. There was a lot to mock about Beauty and the Beast in Season 1, but its combination of solid romance, smart storytelling and self-aware humor made it a highlight of my TV week. Written and run by two women, it spoke to me. The ratings were just good enough to renew the show for a second season, but not without a 'reboot' complete with new showrunners (guys now). The low-budget procedural part of the show has been replaced with a low-budget monster-of-the-week thriller, which is about even-up, but all the parts of the show that I loved seem to have been jettisoned. Proof that looks are not enough, I've completely lost interest in the title 'ship, perhaps because I don't like the male lead character anymore. Bah!
This weekend 13YO cut the dahlias to the ground. Whack! I cut out the blackberry canes that fruited this year, they won't produce again, and tied this year's new canes to the fence and generally cleaned up and weeded, and the area was transformed. You'd think the dahlia demise would be sad, but I'm surprised at how excited I am about the clean slate. I've already planted Winter/Spring blooming annuals in the beds, and new sweet peas along the fence.
