"Say to yourself 'It's just a show. I should really just relax'"
-Mystery Science Theater 3000

My guilty pleasure show sucked so hard last night. I wanted to cry. There was a lot to mock about Beauty and the Beast in Season 1, but its combination of solid romance, smart storytelling and self-aware humor made it a highlight of my TV week. Written and run by two women, it spoke to me. The ratings were just good enough to renew the show for a second season, but not without a 'reboot' complete with new showrunners (guys now). The low-budget procedural part of the show has been replaced with a low-budget monster-of-the-week thriller, which is about even-up, but all the parts of the show that I loved seem to have been jettisoned. Proof that looks are not enough, I've completely lost interest in the title 'ship, perhaps because I don't like the male lead character anymore. Bah!

This weekend 13YO cut the dahlias to the ground. Whack! I cut out the blackberry canes that fruited this year, they won't produce again, and tied this year's new canes to the fence and generally cleaned up and weeded, and the area was transformed. You'd think the dahlia demise would be sad, but I'm surprised at how excited I am about the clean slate. I've already planted Winter/Spring blooming annuals in the beds, and new sweet peas along the fence.

The garden shed, with 100% more purple and 100% less rot.

I suppose with all the clutter, this is a scene only a mother could love, but at least is shows my new garage door. I love my new garage door. It's amazing what some trim and paint can do.

My new passion fruit vine is blooming. Passion flowers are all bizarre!

I of course had to click back to see the new picture; wow! Very pretty but "Bizarre" covers it nicely!

Boo to your show running off the rails! What a disappointment.

Yay to your colorful, jolly garden. I love the paint choices and passion flowers are awesomely bizarre.

Boo indeed! I loved the way the female character was the one that did most of the rescuing and had the important job and the commitment issues. Sure, she was the least convincing detective character on TV, but it meant a lot to me anyway. *Sigh* The new season has pretty much flip-flopped it.

Thanks!
