The media bugs me
Dec. 16th, 2012 03:29 pmIt bugs me that some tragic deaths are national news, and while many more others, equally worthy, suffer and die unmourned. It bugs me that the media sensationalizes and lionizes mass murderers, resulting in copycat crimes. It's crazy that murder will get a someone's manifesto published, their suicide video watched by millions. I yearn for the day when no news outlet will publish the names, photos, or rants of killers, if not because of their own ethics and common sense, than because the public outrage would be tremendous. We don't need to 'search for answers'. Mass killers are mentally ill. Period.
Volunteer to mentor. Studies have shown again and again that a single supportive adult can make all the difference in a child's life.
Also, why is it that many of the same folks that think that drug laws are a failure, somehow think that gun laws will be a success? And vice versa.

I tend to agree re: publicizing these bad guys. I saw on the news that they arrested someone else in the midwest for threatening a similar crime.
