I am so glad to see the rain. It makes me think of Christmas and childhood. I'm sure the Mister wouldn't have minded the dry weather for one more weekend though. We drove up to his marksmanship workshop over flooded roads and great torrents of rivers with giant logs floating down them. I kept myself busy while he perfected his craft. He said that his rifle got gawked at by the Oregonians. California has an 'assault rifle' ban. Since there is no such thing as an 'assault rifle', lawmakers were reduced to outlawing features that make a gun look, well, like the guns they see bad guys using in movies. So a legal rifle in California, IF it has a detachable magazine, cannot have an adjustable stock, flash hider, or pistol grip. These things don't make the gun easier to use in a crime, or more deadly in some way, but they do make the gun look more 'military'. Gun manufacturers almost immediately rendered the law moot by changing the design of the magazine attachment: a 'bullet button' style arrangement in which the magazine does require a tool to detach it, but the 'tool' is either a bullet, or a small magnetized button that can be left attached, but is nominally a separate tool.
Anyway, the Mister opted to have an old-fashioned detachable magazine, meaning he must eschew features that most people consider standard.
