Old Thing(s) I Learned:

"I don't have any jumper cables" means: "I'd like to have a good excuse not to help you".

I am prone to leaving my lights on and killing my car battery, even more so now that I drive with my lights on. Asking strangers for help is an interesting exercise. There are many nice people. There are others that feel threatened or disgusted by one of those sort who drive cars that aren't reliable or who don't have a AAA gold card. There are still others that can't be bothered. I ran into one of these last ones today. He wouldn't help because he was afraid he might dick up his new car in the process. My hero. Really got his priorities on correctly. There's always the urge to say something of the sort, but I never do. Maybe this person is a wiener, but that doesn't mean I get to be. He was in his twenties, had unattractive teeth, and was very overweight. The world is not kind to people like this. I'm probably paying for enumerable cuts and sleights and frustrations. Maybe, if he's anything like me, it will bug him for days or weeks that he was a wiener and we both knew it. May I never be a beggar. I can't imagine multiplying the elegant older couple (good christians, no doubt) who once looked at me like I had a bad smell, and said they were in much too much of a hurry, by a few hundred, every day. I'm sure you get hardened to it, but it must break your heart first.

Had an midwife appt. today. Baby is growing well. They suggested that maybe I'm farther along than we thought as I'm bigger than expected. I had to laugh, I've heard that one before. If it's anything like last time, the little sucker is just big. I gave them 10 brochures, and they asked for 25 more and seemed very enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is always nice. :) We went over to Alan's grandma's and made lunch. She loves company so I try to visit her whenever I get up to Arcata. She's so thrilled to see us more often. Makes me glad we moved back. Connor's starting to warm up to her now that he sees her more often. He warms most quickly to men, then to cute young waitresses, and so on. Enthusiastic great grandmas that try to kiss on him are predictably last. My theory is that he likes men better because they let him make the moves.

Plants tomorrow. I hope. I can't wait!

Computer monitor died. :( Oh well, it was free and served me well for many years.
