Thoughts on Man Shopping:
  1. How does he treat pets?   Good signs: his dog has arthritis and cataracts   Bad signs: he averages a cat a year, he buys novelty pets
  2. How does he treat servers in restaurants?   Good: Like people   Bad: Like objects   Worse: Like sex objects   Run!: Like younger siblings when Mom's not home
  3. How does he treat women?   Good: He likes his female relatives, he actually has female friends   Bad: He talks to his mom on the phone like she's a telemarketer, he hates all of his exes, he acts much differently around men than women.   Extra bad: He's a jerk to his ex and he has kids that he hardly sees. Lots of women seem to convince themselves that he'll treat them like a princess and guard their children with his life. Maybe. Odds are they're getting a sneak preview of the way he treats an ex-princess and related responsibilities.
  4. Does he take reasonably good care of himself? He's probably not going to be able to take care of you or any offspring any better.   Awesome: He gets regular exercise   Good: He actually eats halfway decent   Bad: He eats crappy, and keeps frat house hours
  5. Does he care about things other than #1?   Good: performs some sort of community service   Bad: Keeps the cash when he finds a wallet   Run!: He trys to use the credit cards
  6. Does he know how to maintain relationships?   Good: He has one or more friends of long standing   Bad: His previous record is 4.575 months
Extra Credit:
  1. He's a vegetarian
  2. He doesn't care for professional sports
  3. He never gets inebriated.
  4. He can cook
  5. He's not cut.
  6. He owns several acres of excellent pasture and likes horses

I would be curious to hear your observations. My theories aren't really all that field tested. :)

The last time I came up with a list like this, I got somebody who fit every single criteria on the list - with some bonus additional traits that made him very, very unsuitable for me. ;) I've been kind of leery about what I put on lists since then. ;D

A man could meet all of my positive criteria and still have plenty of room to be an axe murderer. :) On the other hand, I can't imagine a guy meeting much of any of the negative criteria and still being a good match for me. I sometimes get the impression that people largely disregard the way their S.O.'s or prospective S.O.'s treat people that they aren't courting, and then are surprised when their turn comes around. I think this observation, whether it is a good one or not, is largely what my list is based on.
