Well, I reconciled my checking accounts after three months of neglect. Have decided to ditch Quicken and go back to my Excel spreadsheets, the nerd joy of building my own compensates for any lack of slickness.

Made cookies for dinner tonight. Very bad. Good cookies, blended tofu egg substitute plus oats plus, uh chocolate, makes for complete protein I think, but no complete meal. No complete sentences. Um... Watched the commentary version of Episode I last night, which was kind of interesting. Lucas never directly addresses any fan concerns with the film, something I always wonder about. Tonight was National Geographic theme. Watched two bear documentaries that I brought home from the library and finished up in the tub with a travel book from same.

Clearly I'm not entirely ready for R rated movies yet, watched The Beach a couple of nights ago which started with a messy suicide and moved on to 3 shark attack victims, 4 graphic shootings, 1 maiming and a game of Russian roulette. I had nightmares.

Speaking of nightmares, we got to see one of the touring casts of Sue the Tyrannosaur at OMSI in Portland. Very enjoyable day and evening. Of course, the Denver Museum had its very own T-Rex doing a flying kick in their atrium (I kid you not), but hey, Colorado had a state fossil (the stegosaurus), it was that kind of place. OK panic attack, did we really trade the Prehistoric Journey exhibit for Humboldt County? *deep breaths* We can always fly back and visit, which will probably happen about as often as we availed ourselves of the museum anyway.

Commentary version of Ep. 1? Is this the new DVD version? Hm. I'm not surprised that Lucas doesn't address the fan concerns... "I like JarJar, dammit, you whiner geeks can fucking cope, I'm the director. sneer" Heh. It'd be amusing, though. ;)

myclaudia rented The Beach a while ago - Sarah has notoriously bad taste in movies. I wandered away after the first fifteen-twenty minutes, more from the stupidity and my dislike of the blonde prettyboy than the violence. Sarah later told me she'd turned it off halfway through, it was so lame she couldn't stand it. As a household, we're pretty inured to violence - but we have a hard time sitting through stupidity. ;)

The very best dinosaur experience I ever had was the "wall of death" at the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah. Wow... I'm planning a summer outing to dig for trilobites in Oregon next year. There's a couple of natural history museums up here, but they're pretty lame; one is very small, and the other is like a low-rent version of the Exploratorium in SF.

I just found out that I'll be missing Walking With Prehistoric Animals tonight, by the people that made Walking With Dinosaurs. whine Oh well... maybe I can get the third floor neighbors to tape it for me.

I feel quite lame that we never made it out to Dinosaur National Monument. Seems like, after working all week, we spent most weekends being very unambitious. I pretty much never wanted to fight traffic anywhere after commuting to Boulder and back all week.

*shrug* Stupidity is very much in the eye of the beholder. Part of my violence aversion is hormonal, part is probably personality. In any case it's been starting to look to me like part of the popularity of violent movies with the young is kind of like some adolescent cult ritual. The cult of the cool. You must watch and enjoy this stuff to show your fellow members that you hold nothing sacred but the cult, you fear nothing, short of rejection, that is. It probably doesn't hurt that the under 30 set is generally as unacquainted with real loss and grief as they are convinced of their own immortality. Perhaps 9/11 has changed that a little.
