Sometimes I contribute to the delinquency of moths. I was wondering why they stayed in the same spot for days on end. Don't they have moth things they ought to be doing? And then I realized that it might be all my fault. If the porch light doesn't get turned off, they may be stuck in an endless day. There really are some glorious ones. The prize winner? Hyalophora euryalus I just about had a heart attack when I saw this thing stuck to the side of my house. Then today I found this in my spanish lavender. I told Alan he had to come see the 'double extra cool' spider.

Zowie, that is an amazingly cool spider. Did the moth have those nifty feathery antennae?

I think it's one of those 'orb weaver' spiders. I've never seen one around here before. It's body is about the size of an average bumble bee, that's what I thought it was at first.

The moth was just amazing, about the size of a monarch butterfly (with big nifty feathery antennae) :)

Thank you for bug geeking with me. :)

You're welcome! In fact, I have lately been pondering getting (or going to the library, renewing my card, and checking out) a "big book of bugs" to identify some of the critters I see around here. :)
