So, if it's not the cervix, and it's not the g-spot, what is it then? Long and arduous research followed, only to discover that science doesn't really know what all exactly is getting prodded during intercourse. Everything is so very variable, and regrettably, there are still plenty of folks in the scientific community who don't think that sex research is an appropriate use for an MRI machine.

Nevertheless, it looks like I was both wrong and right. The cervix is within finger's reach, but the vagina stretches in such a way that the cervix can be near the end of the penises great and small. The cervix is not the spot in question, however. I bring to you: the Anterior Fornix Erogenous Zone.

There are a few theories about the anatomy of this launch button. Some write convincingly about the trigone of the bladder; a place where all the nerves that serve the genital area converge on their way to the spinal cord. In men, this is stimulated (in theory) by playing anatomical dominoes: pressing the prostate against it by nudging the prostate via the wall of the rectum; and in women, by nudging the front wall of the vagina, just past the cervix. A layman writer described this area in women as analogous to the prostate in men (confusing it with the G-spot, an act with a long, venerable history). Then there’s the structure called Halban's Fascia, sandwiched between the bladder and the front wall of the vagina, chock full of nerves and blood vessels and analogous to one of the major erectile structures of the penis. Still other researchers scoff at the notion of an “anatomically clearly definable erotically triggering entity”. They find the entire front wall of the vagina, from G-spot to points far north, to be one big ol' erogenous fiesta.

Sex toys designed by women specifically for getting in the Zone are long, with a distinct arc towards the end (giving the numerous descriptions of Spike's penis as long and delightfully curved, with a nice fat tip, a whole new significance in my mind).
