Harry, Harry Potter?
Jul. 23rd, 2007 03:02 pmI just finished the book, much reading done after midnight in the bath, so...
I definitely got a hee from this post by st_salieri If Joss had written the series...
As for me:
- I can't wait to see the movie. I was definitely getting visuals
- I was surprised the body count wasn't higher or at least played for harder impact. Hedwig died and I was liek whoa, this is going to be hardcore, but it seemed like it didn't really hit that hard after that. I went in totally expecting Ron to die at the very least, and was actually expecting Harry to die for reals, I was prepared for Hagrid to go and I was definitely surprised that all the Malfoys were still upright.
- I wanted more Draco. Yes, he's white blond and ebol Shut Up
- I thought the epilogue was lame and I like lame, but laying down who lived happily ever after with whom probably kept a few tons of carbon out of the atmosphere in the form of pleading letters penned on wood pulp and delivered overseas
- I loved the Snape/Lily storyline... same patronus *sniffle* deer so pritty
- I loved with she did with Dumbledore's character.
- I love that Harry's the bestest hero Evar, I love the way Dumbledore sees him, but Harry doesn't do all the heroing. I thought it was great that the plot tokens and heroics were shared. Neville gets the nifty sword, instead of Harry cleaning up.

Anyway, I believe it just isn't the type of series where that kind of ending would have fit or been satisfying.
I really liked *how* JKR plotted out the events that led to the final battle and Harry's triumph. Being entirely unspoilered and not bothering with predictions, it was a very satisfying adrenaline-infused, exhilarating, twisty-turny showdown to me.

Date: 2007-07-24 07:30 pm (UTC)The death I thought was unsatisfying was Snape's. I wanted to see him die in the act of showing his true colors. That's a bit cliched I know, besides messing with her big reveal.
It was good that way for me too. I was also completely unspoilered except for having heard that JKR said at least two major characters were going to die. :)
