I watched the first two eps of Moonlight last night. It is Bad, make no mistake. The acting can be very awkward, as is the show's use of devices that I didn't even notice were devices on other shows. Their villains have an edge-crush test rating and their rendition of the flappy coat somehow manages to say 'Marilyn Monroe' rather than 'romantic anti-hero'. Since the anti-hero is wearing jeans instead of silk thigh highs, there's really no win. They fail at pretty much everything, except at making me excited to watch the next episode.

I don't get it, but I don't really care :D Maybe they have subliminal messages like: "He just needs the love of a good woman" or "Vamp shlongs are bigger". Oh, and Jason Dohring as an amoral vampire type, amen. I would watch just for that, I love his evil.

Yeah, it steals from every previous vampire show on television but, like all good cheese, it's addictive. Last night's episode shamelessly stole, IMO, from Spiral, Graduation Day Part 2 & Dead Things.

No sign of any vampire shlongs so far however...

That's what fanart is for, I suppose. But I don't doubt this show would deliver the goods if only the FCC would let them. It's that kind of show.

It's so nice to have a vampire show that looks to give me what I want instead of what Joss thinks I need. Maybe Joss needs bigger explosions and moar angst, and to look himself in the mirror in the morning, but I _need_ me some vampire romance, damn it all.

Why is it that everyone who watches this show admits it's really, really bad and they still get hooked? I am going to have to test it on myself. I'm a hard sell for the simple reason that pretty boys, per se, leave me cold. If the only thing this show has going for it is pretty boys, I will not be hooked.

(Just as the prettiness of Dean on SPN has done nothing to lure me past the astonishing badness of the cheesy dialogue and otherwise clunky writing. I may need to be tied down & force-fed SPN episodes before the addictiveness kicks in... I feel left out! and along comes Moonlight to make it worse!)

I tried SPN and teh pritty was not near enough, but Moonlight has me hooked. Not Buffy-hooked, mind you. I could quit cold turkey any time I wanted. Yeah. Anyway--the lead of Moonlight is not pretty, and neither is Jason Dohring for that matter. With Jason it's always been about the unholy gleam in his eye. *swoonz*

I think it's because SPN is neither good enough nor bad enough. It lacks Buffy's smarts, and self-deprecating humor, but it's not bad enough to be LOL bad. Moonlight is That Bad.

Aaah ... you know the magic words. I'm more than halfway sold already, sight unseen!

And I so know what you mean about Jason's "unholy gleam" ... yes, another great selling point!

Have you seen Jason on Veronica Mars? Cuz basically I've taken all that character development and deposited it in Moonlight's account.

Hee. Yes, that's where I know Jason from, and I'm sure I'll be taking the same shortcut as you. ;)

It's funny cuz he's not my usual idea of attractive, his jawline's kinda soft yadda, yadda. But those eyes--they speak right to my inner cavewoman or something. *whew*

I hope his Moonlight character has the same heroic streak.
